Chelsea Secure Circle as New Front-of-Shirt Partner

Chelsea Secure Circle as New Front-of-Shirt Partner

Chelsea have ended their search for a front-of-shirt sponsor by agreeing a new partnership with US-based financial technology company Circle, bringing the company’s USDC stablecoin branding to the club’s men’s, women’s and academy shirts.

The initial agreement covers the remainder of the 2026/27 season, with an option to extend the partnership beyond the current campaign. Financial terms have not been disclosed, although Chelsea had reportedly been seeking between £50 million and £60 million per year for the asset.

The agreement provides Chelsea with an important new commercial partner after beginning the season without a front-of-shirt sponsor and marks another major step in Circle’s efforts to build awareness through global sport.

USDC Takes Centre Stage on Chelsea Shirts

Rather than the Circle corporate name, USDC will appear on the front of Chelsea’s shirts across all competitions.

USDC, or USD Coin, is a stablecoin issued by Circle and designed to maintain a one-to-one value with the US dollar. It is fully backed by cash and cash-equivalent reserves and is designed to facilitate fast and accessible digital transactions through blockchain technology.

Placing USDC on the front of Chelsea’s shirts gives Circle one of the most prominent sponsorship assets in global club football, providing visibility across the Premier League, domestic competitions and European football.

The agreement also extends beyond the men’s first team, with USDC branding appearing across Chelsea’s women’s and academy teams, significantly broadening the partnership’s exposure.

Chelsea Strengthens Its Commercial Portfolio

The deal represents another boost to Chelsea’s growing commercial operation, with the club continuing to expand its portfolio of global partners.

Chelsea President and Chief Operating Officer Jason Gannon, who led the sponsorship process, described the partnership as an opportunity to position the club at the forefront of football’s digital development.

“This partnership with Circle positions Chelsea at the forefront of football’s digital evolution,” Gannon said.

“We are two organisations fixated by the future and are relentlessly innovating to be in the best position possible for the long-term. We look forward to beginning our journey with Circle — to introduce Circle to the Chelsea family and continue enhancing how we operate.”

The partnership also demonstrates the continued appeal of Premier League clubs to financial technology and digital finance companies seeking global consumer awareness.

A Long Search for a Permanent Shirt Partner

Chelsea’s front-of-shirt sponsorship position has been the subject of considerable attention since its long-standing agreement with telecommunications company Three ended in 2023.

The club subsequently partnered with Infinite Athlete for the 2023/24 season, although that agreement was only finalised after the campaign had already started.

Chelsea then relied on shorter-term arrangements, including deals with Damac Properties during the 2024/25 season and industrial AI company IFS in 2025/26.

Circle emerged as one of the leading candidates for the sponsorship earlier in 2026, but negotiations continued for several months as Chelsea considered interest from other potential partners.

The club has consistently maintained that its objective was not simply to secure the highest possible financial offer, but to identify a partner that aligned with its longer-term commercial ambitions.

Short-Term Agreement Leaves the Door Open

Despite finally securing a new front-of-shirt partner, the initial length of the Circle agreement is notable.

Rather than immediately committing to a multi-year contract, Chelsea has agreed a deal covering the remainder of the season, although an extension option provides the possibility of developing the relationship into a longer-term partnership.

This approach gives both organisations an opportunity to evaluate the commercial impact of the collaboration before making a more substantial commitment.

For Chelsea, it also preserves flexibility around one of the club’s most valuable commercial assets at a time when Premier League sponsorship values continue to develop.

Digital Finance Continues Its Move Into Sport

Circle’s arrival at Chelsea also reflects the continued relationship between professional sport and the rapidly evolving digital finance sector.

Football offers financial technology companies access to enormous international audiences, particularly younger and digitally engaged consumers. For businesses seeking to introduce relatively new financial products to mainstream audiences, partnerships with globally recognised clubs can provide significant visibility and credibility.

Chelsea’s international following makes the club an attractive platform for Circle as it looks to increase recognition of both its corporate brand and USDC.

At the same time, the partnership gives Chelsea exposure to a company operating in one of the fastest-developing areas of the global financial industry.

An Important Commercial Deal for Both Parties

For Chelsea, securing a front-of-shirt sponsor removes a notable gap from the club’s commercial portfolio and creates an additional source of significant sponsorship revenue.

For Circle, the agreement provides access to one of the Premier League’s most internationally recognised clubs and places USDC at the centre of Chelsea’s global matchday exposure.

The immediate focus will be on the remainder of the 2026/27 season, but the option to extend makes the partnership particularly interesting. If both parties see sufficient value, what begins as another short-term Chelsea shirt sponsorship could develop into the longer-term commercial relationship the club has been searching for since 2023.
